(Laser-) technician Deze vacature is alleen beschikbaar in het Engels The Faculty of Science and Engineering has a vacancy for a research technician. The vacancy is at the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials which conducts research addressing fundamental properties of functional materials and devices. The research is carried out by means of a number of modern techniques, in particular, by optical spectroscopy which is widely used to characterise novel functional materials. The position constitutes a technical supporting function in a educational and research environment at a university. The laser technician will be responsible for the maintenance of scientific laser systems as well as spectroscopic and microscopic equipment in the Optical Condensed Matter Physics and Optical Spectroscopy of Functional Nanosystems groups. The technician will also take care of daily non-scientific tasks, e.g. ordering parts/goods for laboratory work. The technician will cooperate with other technical personnel within the Zernike Institute by sharing expertise and supporting other groups in lasers and laser applications. The applicant has to take part in educational duties, such as assisting in the design of laser-based experimental setups and in performing spectroscopic and microscopic experiments. The candidate acts as a Laser Safety Officer of the Zernike Institute responsible for safe laser operations in close cooperation with the other Laser Safety Officers and supervisors in the Institute and Faculty. We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements: • A higher-professional or academic (or equivalent) background in a modern field of laser spectroscopy/microscopy and/or laser physics. • Hands on experience in working with lasers, ideally also femtosecond laser systems, and with spectroscopy setups. • Experience with automated data acquisition and analysis. • Programming skills in python or willingness to learn programming in python. • Keeping up with the latest developments in the field and being prepared to widen knowledge if necessary. • Dutch and English language in writing and speaking. • Readiness to cooperate with and instruct students in safe laser operation as well as to cooperate with other personell in the Optical Spectroscopy groups and the Zernike Institute. • High degree of independence in organising the multiple tasks associated with the function. What can you expect from us? • In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities, we offer a salary of at least € 3.546 up to a maximum of € 5.538 (schaal 10) gross per month for a full-time employment contract. • 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours. • End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and 8% holiday allowance. • Extensive opportunities for personal and professional development. • A temporary appointment of 1.0 FTE for a duration of one year, with the possibility of extension to a contract for an indefinite period. Subject to satisfactory performance and unchanged business circumstances, the position may be converted to a contract for an indefinite period after one year if the Collective Labour Agreement stipulates that it concerns a structural position/role.
