Functiebeschrijving

NWO-I NWO-I Intranet • Technical Manager Superconducting Magnet Technology (f/m/x) Nijmegen About the role At HFML-FELIX, a unique international research facility, our mission is to perform groundbreaking research by enabling molecules and materials to be taken to the extremes of modern-day technology both in terms of (persistent) magnetic field strength and intense radiation in the infrared and terahertz (THz) range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Our scientists and engineers are closely working together to enable new scientific discoveries using cutting-edge and innovative instrumentation. In the near future, an experienced colleague in our magnet development team will retire, and we are therefore looking for a Technical Manager Superconducting Magnet Technology who will lead the magnet development activities and the application of superconducting technologies. The role In this role, you will contribute to the continued development and exploitation of our 45 Tesla hybrid magnet and help shape a future magnet development program focused on superconducting materials. You have expertise in superconducting magnets and play a key role in connecting research, technology development, and international collaboration. You are a source of information on your area of expertise and work closely with engineers within HFML-FELIX to help resolve complex technical issues and bottlenecks. A central part of the position is building and expanding existing collaborations on next-generation superconducting materials and magnet development. You will also engage with international partners within the high-field magnet community, including collaborations within European Magnetic Field Laboratory . What you will do • Contribute to the development and usage of our 45 Tesla hybrid magnet. • Help establish and develop a magnet program focused on superconducting materials together with partners. • Regularly interact with the scientific groups at the institute and act as a technical expert and point of contact for superconducting magnet technology. • Strengthen national and international collaborations in high-field magnet technology. • Initiate and contribute to research proposals and funding applications. International cooperation and travel The field of work is highly international. We therefore expect you to actively participate in international networks, conferences and collaborations with partner laboratories in Europe. This naturally involves traveling on a regular basis. What you bring • Experience working on advanced magnet technology or superconducting systems in a research or R&D environment. • Strong knowledge of superconducting materials and magnets technology, and their applications. • An international network in the magnet or superconductivity community, or the ability to build one. • Experience contributing to research programs and preferably funding proposals. • A PhD in (applied) physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field, is preferred. • A collaborative mindset, strong communication skills, and the initiative to drive new developments. What we offer • A challenging and meaningful position for 32 to 40 hours per week. • A collegial team in which we help and support each other. • A one-year employment contract with the prospect of permanent employment. • There is room for personal development, for example through training and education. • A gross full-time monthly salary of between €5,942 and €8,285 (depending on knowledge and experience), in accordance with scale 12/13 of the collective labour agreement for research institutions, plus holiday pay and a year-end bonus. • Our excellent secondary employment conditions can be found here , such as the option to choose more than 8 weeks of holiday per year. For more information about HFML-FELIX, see www.hfml-felix.nl Diversity code HFML-FELIX strives for a diverse workforce: we want to develop talent and creativity by bringing together people from different backgrounds and cultures. We recruit and select on the basis of competencies and talents. That is why we encourage anyone who recognises themselves in the vacancy to respond. Who are we? HFML-FELIX is a recognised research institute based in Nijmegen, where pioneering research is conducted into the properties and behaviour of (new) materials and molecules. This is achieved by exposing them to extreme conditions, including very high magnetic fields and powerful free-electron lasers. It is the only place in the world where these two techniques can be combined. As an NWO research institute, HFML-FELIX is part of a large national collaboration consisting of Radboud University, NWO (the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research), Radboud UMC and seven other Dutch universities. Our team consists of professors, scientists, technicians, office staff, postdocs, PhD students and students. This ensures a diverse and innovative working culture. We have our own HFML-FELIX Council and an International Scientific Advisory Committee.
