Physics | Optics internship: investigation of electro‑optic modulator leakage mechanisms
Beschrijving Introduction
ASML focuses on developing innovative solutions to maximize the production of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light by harnessing high-power source lasers. The primary goal of this internship is to investigate the leakage mechanism of EOM (Electro-Optical Modulator). To achieve this, you will perform tests on different EOM parameters such as incident angle, input polarization, high-voltage setting, etc. and measure the resulting transmission and leakage through an EOM. The final objective is to establish a clear understanding of the EOM performance. This project offers a valuable and hands-on learning experience for an intern.
Your Assignment
Your main tasks will include:
- Familiarize yourself with the work done on EOM leakage mechanism in ASML; - Read up on literature on the EOM leakage mechanism; - Help in building the set up and then perform EOM measurements; - Analyze the effect of each parameters on the leakage and determine the relation between the parameters and the leakage behavior; - Analyze the measurements and possibly propose a design or improvements;
This is a Master internship for 8 to 12 months, working 5 days per week. This internship is also suitable for writing a thesis. The start date for this internship is September 2026 and is flexible.
Your Profile
To be a fit for this assignment, you:
- Are studying a master's in Physics, Optics or relevant; - Are proactive and self-propelling; - Possess data analysis and problem-solving skills; - Have some hands-on experience in an optics lab; - Preferable have some experience with numerical models; - Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).
Other requirements you need to meet:
- You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship, and you are at least 18 years old at the start of the internshi...
