20230924 NFF Utrecht Poster Wissel 01 1 2 • Organisation / • Volunteers Volunteers are indispensable to the NFF. Young, old, studying, working and retired: everyone is welcome to participate! About 250 volunteers work in various positions during the festival: from scanning tickets to dressing up festival locations and driving the stars around. On this page you will find photos, videos and more information about volunteering at the NFF. In 2026, the festival will take place from 25 September - 2 October in Utrecht. You will help transform locations to make them look completely festival-proof. From painting walls to laying the red carpet, making Golden Calf attributes, hanging lamps, assisting with the truck and much more! Do you like to fix things and is a fun work environment important to you? Sign up for the construction & decoration crew! For this position, you will receive a volunteer allowance. Car service During the festival we will be transporting members of the jury, VIPs, and other guests throughout the whole country from one location to the other. The carservice team is responsible for these tasks and to make sure that all the festival guests will arrive safely at their destination. An important job! Do you know when it's time for a chat or when someone needs a rest? Do you have at least three years of driving experience and good road knowledge? Then this job is for you. This function requires an extra interview with the carservice coordinator to see if you are a match. This function is for dutch speakers only. Digital Culture In this position you will guide the public during their visit to Storyspace in the Neude Library. This way visitors can learn all about the different works. Are you interested in VR and new media disciplines? Would you enjoy taking visitors past the various works? Then this team is for you. As a member of this team, you will receive in-depth training prior to the festival. Distribution team As part of the distribution team, you and other volunteers will make sure that the festival locations are stocked with all the necessary supplies. You will ride the cargo bike to deliver flyers, posters, program notes, tape, lunch and much more to the right locations. Furthermore, you make sure that posters are on the right location in time for a premiere. Are you looking for a fun team and would you like to discover all the festival locations? Sign up for the distribution team! Flex team The flex team consists of volunteers that are widely flexible and can work in various positions. During the festival you will fill in for sick volunteers and get assigned unexpected shifts. As part of the flexteam, you get the chance to experience different festival aspects, giving you a diverse view of the NFF. Every shift can look different. Do you enjoy variety and feel comfortable taking on different volunteer roles? Then this is the job for you! Audience researcher As audience researcher you're the eyes and ears of the festival. You are the one that truly knows what the audience says, thinks and feels. The most important task of the audience researcher is listening to the audience. You'll be taking surveys at multiple festival locations. You will ask the audience to fill in the survey, or you will be trying to get the information more naturally during a conversation. This function is for dutch speakers only . Reception At the reception you are the face of the NFF office. you're the first contact point for questions (face to face, by telephone and by email) and you will be helping out with various office tasks. You will be working at the heart of NFF: the festival office at the Vinkenburgstraat. Here you will get a good picture of everything that involves organizing a festival. At this function you will be working mainly independently. Experience with reception work is an added benefit. This function is for dutch speakers only . Screening attendant/host In this position you will have varying duties in the cinema or at other NFF locations. You will check visitors' tickets, answer questions and help the location managers with other tasks at the locations. Your tasks are diverse, but you are always in contact with the festival visitors. Are you good at communicating with others and do you like to get to know our audience? Then you are the right fit for this team! Fulltime positions Would you like to gain more experience within the organization of a festival and are you ambitious to make this your future career? Then a fulltime position is the job for you! For full-time positions, you will receive a volunteer allowance. In addition, you will receive substantive training prior to the festival, provided by cultural volunteer organization KEES. These trainings are a fun extra and prepare you well! If you apply for a full-time position, we would like to receive your CV and a short motivation via email. Location Assistant Manager A Location Manager is present at every festival venue. They are responsible for the pre-production of the location and ensure that everything runs smoothly during the festival. As an Location Assitant Manager, you support the Location Manager and help oversee the production schedule. You also help manage audience flows and coordinate volunteers. In addition, you will be a point of contact for guests, audiences, and producers. As an Location Assistant Manager, you are social, flexible, proactive, and able to stay calm under pressure. This role is perfect for gaining hands-on production experience. Working hours : Approximately 7 varied festival shifts during the festival, plus KEES training sessions prior to the festival. Volunteers living outside of Utrecht are responsible for covering their own travel and accommodation costs. I have volunteered for NFF before.
